Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek
Kanchenjunga region is a remote terrain and the least traveled destination of eastern Nepal. The unexposed natural beauty, untrodden trekking trails, traditional villages, and rustic lifestyle are some of the features of the region. The region is no less beautiful and pristine than the Everest region or the Annapurna region. But, despite having beautiful land topography, numerous snow-capped mountains, and abundant natural resources, the region fails to draw the attention of national as well as international trekkers.
The term Kanchenjunga is derived from the Tibetan words, Kanchan and Dzonga meaning “five treasures of the great snows.” The third-highest peak in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m/28,169ft), is one the five treasures of the region including Kanchenjunga central, Kanchenjunga north, Kanchenjunga west, and Kangbechan which stretch towards the four different countries, Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, and India. The region is also protected under the Kanchenjunga conservation area which covers 2035 sq.km and protects numerous snow-capped peaks, few glaciers, dense forest, various species of flora-fauna, and other natural resources of this region.
Kanchenjunga region trekking is obviously pleasant and wonderful for the adventure and nature-loving trekkers. The calm and hustle-bustle free trails, diverse land topography, unravished natural beauty of this region allure the trekkers. The trek also offers an opportunity to explore the culture, tradition and religious confluence of the people of this region. As the region is protected under conservation area, trekkers can also witness some endangered wild animals like snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, snow leopard, musk deer, red panda, etc.
The Kanchenjunga region trek traces from the lower region to the higher elevation above 5,00m through small Sherpa settlements, dense rhododendron forest, green rolling hills, terraced field, and arid landscape. The trek provides an opportunity to experience the scenic mountain flight from Biratnagar to Suketar witnessing the spectacular view of the Kanchenjunga range. Unlike EBC Trek and ABC Trek, the Kanchenjunga trek traces the rustic and longer trail which makes it moderately strenuous and demands extra physical fitness. It may be one of the reasons why very few trekkers want to trek in this region.
Trekking in this region is not also possible without a certified guide as most of the areas of this region are restricted for outsiders. Also, solo trekkers or individual trekkers aren’t permitted to trek inside this region; so the trekkers must trek with a team or group. Regarding the trekking seasons, every season is suitable to trek in this region; but spring and autumn are the best trekking seasons to enjoy the clear sky and pristine scenery. If you love tranquility, Kanchenjunga region trek is the perfect package to pursue your dream.
