Geographically, located at  26.4831N to 29.8412N latitude and 80.3333E to 88.0943E longitude. The country covers 0.3% of Asia continent and 0.03% of the world land with an area of 147,181 sq.km. Average Width: 193km Average length: 885 km Time: Greenwich mean time(GMT)+ 5:45 The country is bordered with  China on northern side by great Himalayan range over 1236km territorial length. The other three sides(south, east and west)by India over 1690Km. The country is  just 27Km far from Bangladesh border and 32km far from Bhutan.

  • There are118 ecosystems in Nepal with 185 species of mammals, 875 species of birds, 118 species of amphibians,651 species of butterflies and more.
  • Spiny babbler bird is found only in Nepal.
  • Nepal has been protecting biodiversity in its 20 protected areas: 10 national parks, 3 wildlife reserve, 6 conservation area and one hunting reserve

 

Social Structure,Religion and Culture

  • Nepal is home of living Goddess Kumari and birthplace of Gautama Buddha.
  • More than 29 million Nepalese are divided into 125 ethnic groups in with their specific mother tongue. Each ethnic group have particular rites, rituals, costumes, culture and traditions.
  • In ancient times social strata on the basis of caste was done into 4 categories. Brahmin, Chhetri, Vaishya and Sutra.
  • Nepal strongly believes in unity in diversity with religious tolerance. Hinduism(81.9%) ,Buddhism(9%),Islam(4.4%), Kirat(3%),Christian(1.4%) and other religions(0.3%).
  • Different parts of the country has several pilgrimage sites. Birthplace of Gautama Buddha; Lumbini, Gosaikunda, Muktinath, Baraha Chhetra etc.
  • Kathmandu city alone has several temples and stupas. Some of the world heritage sites cultural and religious site here are open crematory and hindu temple Pashupatinath, Swoyambhunath and Boudhanath stupa .
