The joint collaboration of Government of Nepal and Nepali stakeholders is all set to brush junks from the "Roof of the world", during Mount Everest cleaning campaign 2019, this spring. Precious treasure, Mt.Everest, now has been degrading to the highest debris summit. Climbers and support staff leave oxygen bottles, tents, cans, and wrappers. On top of that, piles of human faces and bags loaded with poop has cover Everest. In addition, around 300 bodies scatters around higher camps. Regions around camp II, camp IV and fourth highest mountain Lhotse are most affected.
Climbers not only have stinky chance of falling into bag of poop but also encountering the piles of cans just to take another step. Besides, the wastage can pollute the glaciers which are source of drinking water to the local communities. Mount Everest Cleaning Campaign
It is mandatory for climbers to bring back 8 kg of waste according to rules introduced in 2014. Despite the rules, pollution has not decreased in Everest. Yet, cleaning campaign this year is believed to be biggest clean up drive with Rs.30 million budget. According to the stake holders, base camp is set up within third week of April. Experienced two Sherpa groups of five members each will collect wastage around Camp II and South Col. Climbers and support staff transfer collected garbage after wrapping procedure. Apart from deploying Ice fall doctors in higher camps for effective campaign, stakeholders have decided to offer cash incentive to the refuse collectors. The Department of Tourism(DoT) estimates climbers toll to be around 500 and their support staff around 1000. Expeditions operators are hopeful about their clients shipping in the campaign and finally mark the words "Take only memories, Leave only footprints."
