CANN has decided to operate all Lukla flight from Ramechhap, Manthali
Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal(CAAN) has notified the domestic airlines to operate all Lukla flight from Ramechhap, Manthali as the country’s single international and domestic airport; Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), has prepared for its runway renovation from April 1st –June 30th, 2019. The renovation work is scheduled to be carried out every day from 10pm- 8 am in the morning. Consequently, numbers of domestic and international flights will be disrupted including Lukla flights from Kathmandu and vice versa. The Lukla Tenzing Hillary Airport is gateway for adventures in Everest region encompassing thrilling Everest Base Camp Trek, wonderful Everest expedition, Gokyo lake trek and dramatic Everest three passes trek. The airport remains busy with 50 flights/day at peak tourist season and 20 flights/day other time of year.
HOW TO REACH MANTHALI AIRPORT OF RAMECHHAP?
The 5 hours drive along BP highway takes you to Manthali Airport. Well paved highway provides glimpses the hilly lifestyle of Nepal. Drive to Airport as per your flight schedule. You can have morning drive to catch flight on the same day. But if you have early morning flight then it’s best to drive a night before and stay overnight at local hotel. IS IT SAFE TO FLY FROM RAMECHHAP TO LUKLA?
Blacktopped Ramechhap Airport is wider than Lukla airport. The airport lies at the bank of glittering Tamakoshi river bank at 474m altitude. The domestic airlines conducting flights have earlier operated cargo flights to Lukla. Meaning, the route is not new for the pilots and airlines. The flights are shorter and weather is less likely to put disturbances in flight schedules though the chances remain.
