The two best seasons, Autumn and Spring are best out of the bests to explore the Himalayas. February marks the end of the winter season and the beginning of spring season. Winter or colder months are not especially famous time to explore mountain region on foot; although it is possible to trek in the Everest region in the month of February. When you think of trekking or hiking, you might not think ‘winter’ is the best idea for trekking due to the challenging weather. The temperature during this month drops down and wind speed fluctuates but we guarantee that you will never regret for choosing the best time to trek Everest Base Camp in February.
March falls under Spring when the temperature begins warmer and nature awakes after a long sleep. The grass and trees on the hill turn green and flowers tend to blossom. Though the days are longer and warmer in March, it will be still cold in the morning and at night. In the early days, you can also encounter occasional snowfall but trekking at daytime will be perfect and nothing can be more exciting than this. Trekking EBC in this month is popular for a spectacular view of a snow-covered mountain and blossoming rhododendron in the hill. This time is quite busy and you can experience many visitors in the Himalayan region, but it is the best time for trekking Everest Base Camp.
The perfect time to trek EBC is in the month of April. The climate in this month is slightly warm at a lower altitude and moderate at a higher elevation as it is mid-spring. The weather and climate are just perfect for sightseeing and exploring the scenic beauty of nature as we can experience flowers blooming on the hills, forests full of rhododendron and birds chirping in the dense forests. Everest Base Camp trek in April also offers incredible view of the largest glacier (Khumbu glacier) and close clear view of the milky Mountains. Spring is the month of rejuvenation; it is also a festive month for the mountaineers, so there is a possibility of encountering many expedition groups along with a lot of Yaks on the trials.
May marks the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer. It is also the best time of the year to ascend Everest. It offers a breathtaking sunrise and sunset view over the Himalayas. Climate is still fair and the sky is clear which makes the trek more amazing and mesmerizing. Month of May might be the best time for a memorable and pleasant trekking experience of your lifetime, But mid-May is pre-monsoon season so there will be visibility problem because of drizzling rain and clouds. There is also a possibility of a flight delay as the sky won’t be clear all the time. So be careful while trekking EBC in May.
Everest Base camp trekking in September is the best time for trekking in the Himalayan region because it is the time right after monsoon. September and October are the months of major festivals like Dashain and Tihar in Nepal so you can also experience the culture and tradition along with the green hills and blue sky. The autumn season is considered the best time to trek Everest Base Camp for crystal clear view of mountains. Normally, mid-September resembles the end of monsoon season so there will be no rain, windy cold, and summer heat. During September, days are warm and nights are cold but not as cold as winter which make the trek easier, comfortable and risk-free.
Mid-autumn is the best time to visit the Khumbu region as it offers a stunning view of snow-covered mountains, green hills, clear sky, and fresh air. October is the month of peak trekking season; most of the visitors visit Nepal in this month and is especially for Everest Base Camp trek. In this month, days are warmer and nights are usually colder as the maximum and minimum temperature will be 20C and -10C respectively; but the temperature varies according to the altitude. The climate of Everest region is unpredictable, it may rain in October too but it doesn’t affect the trek as the sky becomes clear as the rain stops; and it doesn’t rain much during this time. Everyone wants to trek EBC in October so the route may be busy; however, you will never regret trekking Everest region in October.
Autumn is the tourist season in Nepal as the temperature is favorable for trekking. November is the end of the autumn season, so temperature decreases slightly cold, however, days remain warmer and clearer. Trekking in Nepal in November is a wonderful experience. You will have an amazing experience with a distinct view of the landscape, nature, snow-capped mountains and cultural and traditional diversity; as well as there is no risk of snowfall, rainfall, and leeches too. Especially October and November are the two peak trekking seasons in Nepal.
December is also a good time to trek EBC. But it marks a cold season and the temperature starts to drop down below Zero at night in the Everest region. Most of the expedition team and trekking company don’t recommend the trekkers to trek in the mountain region as there is a risk of snowfall. Package costs and flight costs also tend to drop low in this month due to off-season; however, few trekkers ascend EBC to avoid other busy trials and to experience an unorthodox climate. Trekking is favorable in all seasons in Nepal. But you need to be more careful and aware of the climate and temperature before trekking to Everest. Avoid late-winter (late December and January) and monsoon season (June, July, August and early September) to trek Everest Base Camp as there is chances of snowfall, landslide, avalanche, leeches and slippery road.
